My Dirty Little Secret

I have a dirty little secret. Yes, you heard me. Some of you that know me, know my dirty little secret. Some of you may not. I feel like it’s time I share my secret with all of you but before I do you have to promise me something…..Promise you won’t judge. No, i’m serious! No judging and I will share my dirty little secret.

Here goes………

I don’t use soap when I wash my face. Well that felt good to share. I don’t use soap to wash my face.

So know that you have had a chance to digest that I think I should tell you what I DO use to wash my face. I wash my face with oils. Now, some of you are probably ready to stop reading and close the page. Wait! Hear me out. I know everyone has different types of skin. Some of you have oily skin and are saying “Why would I add more oil to my already oily skin”. I will explain…I promise. Some of you have super dry skin and are saying “hmmm, that sounds nice but I don’t want my skin to get too oily” I will explain, I promise.

There are so many oils out there that can help with every ones skin type. And making your perfect blend is easier than you think. I have very dry skin so I look for oils that are super moisturizing and that also help with my fine lines and wrinkles. Let’s face it, I am not getting any younger. I use a combination of Avocado oil, Jojoba oil and Sweet Almond oil for the base of my “face wash”. I like to mix my oils and then pour them in a dark glass bottle that I keep in my bathroom. ( see pics below). When mixing the three oils I use equal parts. For the container I use I mix 50ml’s of each oil. then I add my other essential oils. I like to use 15 drops of Frankincense and 10 drops of Rosehip oil. Frankincense oil and Rosehip are both great for anti-aging. There are many other essential oils that you can use instead of Rosehip or Frankincense. Lavender oil is a great one to add. It helps restore your complexion and reduces acne. If you are prone to acne I would suggest replacing one of the carrier oils with Castor oil. Olive oil is also a great moisturizing oil for your skin. The possibilities are really endless.

Now that I have my perfect blend it’s time to wash my face. I used to hate washing my face. I have never found an eye makeup remover that I like. I always felt like soaps were drying out my skin even more. Now, I just wash my face and remove my makeup with oils. Just pour a nickel size amount of oil in the palm of your hand and rub your hands together then proceed to wash your face with it. ( I suggest testing the essential oils on a small patch of skin before you rub it ALL OVER your face). Once I feel like I have rubbed it all over I then let it sit for a few minutes. While I am letting it soak in I wet a wash cvloth with warm/hot water. Then place that cloth over your face and let it sit for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. That opens up your pores and lets the oil in even more. If you have chosen oils that will help with acne, this allows the oils to go to work. If you have chosen oils to really moisturize your skin, this allows it to get into your skin and start giving you the moisture you need. Then, just wipe off the excess oil, makeup and dirt. It all just comes rolling off in your wash cloth. Leaving your face clean and moisturized.

I now LOVE to come home and wash my face!!! I hope you find this helpful and thanks for reading! If you are oil cleansing I would love to hear what oils you use and any tips you would like to share!
